This off the beaten path Portugal Algarve itinerary and map is perfect for anyone’s return trip to see the country’s hidden gems. The itinerary guides travelers through off the beaten path Portugal sights, eats and activities by visiting the Algarve. This was 3 days spent mostly in the eastern part of the Algarve, staying at an amazing boutique hotel, hiking, eating and chilling. The Algarve can get overrun by tourists in certain areas at certain times of year but this itinerary provides a luxury boutique hotel for cheap, authentic eats and quality experiences that are off-the-beaten path.

Off the Beaten Path Portugal Algarve Itinerary – Day 1
If you’re arriving before noon, head straight to Marinha beach and the 7 Hanging Valleys walk (or chill on the beach and take a boat ride to the Benagil Caves). Walk along the gorgeous cliffs to lunch at Vale Centeanes beach. Then head to the hotel and a tasty dinner. 🐾 Day 1 Transport: Drive to Marinha beach (about 45 minutes), then drive to Quinta dos Perfumes (an hour from Marinha Beach) then drive or bike to dinner (about 5 minutes).
Off the Beaten Path Portugal Algarve Itinerary – Day 2
Take advantage of the free bikes and explore the orchard and Cabanas. If you’re brave enough, bike all the way to Tavira or come back or make the short drive there for lunch and wandering to see Tavira Castle and the other sights. Dinner is overlooking Praia Verde further east. 🐾 Day 2 Transport: It’s about 5 or 10 minute bike ride into Cabanas, and a 45 minute bike ride from Cabanas to Tavira (or a 7 minute drive). For dinner, it’s a 15 minute drive to Praia Verde.
Off the Beaten Path Portugal Algarve Itinerary – Day 3
Another hike – choose either a hike in the hills or along the coast. Get going on the early side, so you can get back and shower in time to make sunset. Dinner in Tavira. 🐾 Day 3 Transport: It’s about an hour drive to the Don Quixote hike and about 1.5 hour drive to the start of the Trail of Tides hike. It’s about a 7 minute drive to Tavira for dinner. (There are also other suggestions if you don’t want to hike again!)
